Most likely, on the site of today's St. Mary's Basilica once stood the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in the 13th century during the princely rule of Swietopelk II.

Long Street and Long Market
ul. Długa
Long Street and Long Market forming the Royal Route are among the most beautiful streets in Gdansk. They run perpendicular to the Motlawa River from Zlota Brama (Golden Gate) to Zielona Brama (Green Gate). Long Market in the 16th and 17th centuries served as a stock exchange. The wealthiest patricians of Gdansk, mayors, rich merchants lived here and almost every tenement house has its own interesting history.
